People in North West Mumbai are suffering the effects of air and water pollution, due to the illegal slums which have encroached on mangroves in Borivli and Dahisar. The New Link Road Residents Forum are fighting to remove all the slums and replant mangroves here.

In this video you can see the fumes being released into the air by irresponsible people staying in Ganpat Patil Nagar. This poisonous smoke spreads to Borivli and Dahisar West, and has already affected thousands of innocent children and adults alike. Many of them have cough and even more serious diseases like ILD and Pulmonary fibrosis which can be lethal.

Besides, the carcinogenic chemicals including Dioxins released are taking their toll on innocent lives, causing different cancers.

All of Mumbai is at risk.

The Mangrove issue is a major issue which has disturbed and affected all the residents down the New Link road, Major NGO’s like ourselves, The I.C. Women’s Welfare Asso, the Kanderpada Residents Welfare Asso. have been supporting the cause.
As recent as last week (Sunday) an all NGO’s meet under the banner of Borivali Dahisar Citizen Forum was initiated by us so as to form a united front of all NGO’s operating in the area and better still even include all other welfare groups in Borivali / Dahisar area. We require to make a concentrated and united effort to solve all the major issues, and what better way than to form a committee that will be represented with at least 2 members of each NGO.! We have even decided to bring out a newsletter with a distribution strength of 10,000 copies that will highlite every issue and work done by NGO’s at no cost, so much for awareness, but we have to make a start, why not now? There are many groups who only want to project themselves rather than service for want of loosing their identity, which is why the steam and cause is lost. I still say we have to make a concentrated effort to achieve our goals for a united and better tomorrow for our residents. Thanks for ICCRWA. C Fernandes. President
