In broad daylight right under the nose of the beat marshals, alert New Link Road Residents Forum members found trucks filled with debris entering Galli number 10 in CRZ land to fill wetlands in Ganpat Patil Nagar, an illegal slum colony in Borivli- Dahisar off New Link Road.
We immediately called 100, police control room and gave details and took down the complaint number. We waited, and two more trucks lined up. A passing police van asked them to go away, so we could not apprehend them. In the meanwhile two of our members entered the galli and confronted the driver of the vehicle as he was about to dump the debris onto a water
body in the CRZ.
We were shocked to see the amount of debris dumped here in the CRZ. The police came and impounded the dumper and arrested the driver and his accomplice.
We gave our panchnama at MHB Police Station.
It was another eventful day for our Forum members. We wish the Police would do their duty and catch these dumpers themselves instead of we residents having to do the same.
The kingpins behind this murder of mangroves and environmental violations should be convicted and prosecuted.
