Lawyer held for making threats

Mumbai: A lawyer working on behalf of Jayesh Shah of the infamous Ravi group of Builders was arrested by the MHB Colony police recently in connection with a case where a group of environmentalists had been threatened at Dahisar in May. Advocate Deepak Joshi, the accused, was released on a cash bail on Monday. The police are now looking for 20 others who had accompanied Joshi.

“On May 3, 2010, members of the New Link Road Residents’ Forum and the Conservation Action Trust were conducting a survey, with government officials. They were carrying out an audit on mangroves destroyed at Dahisar (W) in Survey 344. A mob of around 25-30 people, including Joshi, surrounded them and threatened them, and snatched away two expensive digital cameras. Debi Goenka was also threatened. An FIR was registered at MHB police station. ’’ said a police official. After a case was registered with the MHB Colony police, we have already arrested one person, Hareshwar Patil, in the case. Joshi’s is the second arrest,’’ the official said.
