Mumbai: With just a few days to go for the new batch of corporators to enter the BMC House, the incumbents and committee members seem to be in a great hurry to clear pending proposals. The standing committee, on Saturday, passed 12 proposals worth Rs 112 crore.
Three more standing committee meetings are scheduled to be held before March 9 when the new general body will be sworn in. Until the new
bunch of corporators gets into action, the current members will continue to occupy seats on various committees of the civic body.
Standing committee chairman Rahul Shewale stated that proposals that had been pending due to the code of conduct coming into force ahead of the BMC elections would now be cleared.

Most proposals concern cleared tenders: BMC
Mumbai: Among proposals worth Rs 112 crore that the BMC cleared on Saturday were those for purchase of medicines and equipment for hospitals and clinics, repairs to storm water drains and water pipelines and election expenses. “We cleared all major proposals before the code of conduct. The few remaining will be cleared in few days. Most are regarding tenders that are cleared. Major ones concern roads and garbage,” standing committee chairman Rahul Shewale said.
The other meetings will continue before the new corporators are sworn in.
The civic body has initiated steps to get the list of new corporators published in the gazette. Once it is published (by February-end), corporators will be deemed to be elected representatives. After that, the registration of the general body will take place at the divisional Konkan commissioner’s office. Once the group is registered, the list will be submitted to the municipal secretary.
“After that, the nominations for the mayor will be submitted and the election will take place on March 9. The following day, dates will be announced for the formation of various statutory committees,” said Shewale.
