Alert OLCA members stop Mangrove fire in Andheri

Timely action by alert members of the Oshiwara Lokhandwala Citizen’s Association [OLCA} prevented what would have been a major environmental catastrophe for Mumbai. They detected mangroves set afire by criminals out to reclaim wetlands for ‘development’, and stopped them from destroying our wetlands.

Criminals are out to reclaim wetlands, even though these very wetlands are the savior of our city.

This is what the Times of India reported:

Fire breaks out at mangroves in Oshiwara A fire broke out in the mangroves at Oshiwara on Wednesday. Sumesh Lekhi, a member of Oshiwara-Lokhandwala Residents Association, said vast tracts of mangroves on the Jeejeebhoy-Sahara property had caught fire and it took long for the fire brigade to put out the blaze.
