Two weeks before Dussera 2017 a flower vendor quietly started his business of selling pooja flowers on the footpath just a few feet from Bhakti Complex building main gate, opposite D Mart on the Link Road.
Alert citizens were observing. He was questioned when he showed no signs of moving. He claimed that he would be moving soon. Society members were reluctant to take up the matter any further, though they all said they object to the hawker.
After a few days, we noticed that he was stocking rose bouquets.
If we had not stepped in this would have been the condition of the road!
New Link Road Forum members decided to act.
They used a multi dimensional approach.
The President, Secretary and other team members confronted him directly and asked him to leave politely. He started arguing saying, if you give me two square meals a day I will leave!
We also gave a complaint to the BMC and posted his location details on the MCGM app.
Within four days there was no trace of him.
Residents celebrated. Victory of good over evil was seen once again.
