Boosting Oxygen Suplies Rezaul H Laskar letters@hindustantimes.com

So one would naturally think that while we are talking about boosting Oxygen supplies, what are we doing to save the Oxygen already present in our atmosphere?

Shockingly, in Borivali and Dahisar in North Mumbai, we are witnessing the opposite. Illegal slums in the CRZ-1 protected mangroves have not only destroyed the Oxygen producing wetlands, but are also burning all sorts of stuff and using up this precious commodity that the entire country is gasping for.

Such shocking criminal activities are using up whatever Oxygen is already present in Mumbai, which is witnessing unprecedented Oxygen shortages in Hospitals all across.

Dont the authorities dont care a damn on what is happening at the ground level?

Location of burning in April 2021 as shown in the picture above

This burning and using up of the precious Oxygen is happening literally within walking distance of a COVID ICU setup at the RTO in Kanderpada, North Mumbai. And not only that, they are releasing toxic pollutants right into the atmosphere

What is to be done?

Arrest the culprits who are burning and using up precious Oxygen and releasing toxic pollutants into the atmosphere.

Remove all illegal constructions on these precious wetlands mangroves

Restore the wetlands and allow them to be biodiversity zones that will cleanse our environment and provide habitation to all the species that need protection.

God save the country, we pray.
