Citizens protest meet — Residents protest meet

Emergency Meet of all residents to fight the destruction of mangroves

An emergency meet was organized on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at 6.30 am in the morning at the Zen Garden, Dahisar West, to highlight the massive destruction of mangroves at Dahisar off New Link Road.

It was attended by the local MLA Shri Vinod Ghosalkar, Debi Goenka from BEAG and Corporator of our area, Mrs. Sheetal Mhatre Kulkarni. It was a peaceful protest. We are grateful to the leaders for their support in this vital issue of saving mangroves.

We resolved to stop this destruction of mangroves by whatever legal means possible.

The New Link Road Residents Forum is fighting for the cause of environment and mangroves up to the level of Supreme Court and shall update all its residents about the latest developments in this regard. Our blog newlinkroad.wordpress.com has most of the details also.

All residents joined this campaign and participated in large numbers and displayed their love and support for nature.

There was coverage by the media as well. Police cover was also very evident all around Zen Garden.

Let us all rise for this cause in our interest and that of the future generations.

Who are the people who is putting the sand/stones to block the water. What is their vested interest..
The long term plan is to destroy the mangroves and grab the land.
We need to make sure we get a top down mandate..Get the leaders in the government,enviromentalist,society and the media to showcase the real culprit ..

HOPE THE NEXT TIME THERE IS A PROTEST MEET MORE RESIDENTS COME OUT IN SUPPORT OF A CAUSE THAT IS SO IMPORTANT THE VERY EXISTENCE OF EVERYONE.
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THOSE WHO, INSPITE OF OTHER PERSONAL COMMITTMENTS, CAME OUT IN SUPPORT OF A CAUSE THAT IS SO IMPORTANT TO EACH AND EVERY INDIVISUAL OF THIS GREAT METROPOLIS.
SAVE THE MANGROVES SAVE MUMBAI!!!!

Congratulations for peaceful protest and to all participants!
I appreciate your fight to save Mangroves. I and other flat purchasers are also fighting against same builder. My fight is not against Mr. Jayesh Shah of Ravi Group personally but is against his endless greed and his thought law and administration are purchasable commodity. I should remind you all to please note that if you want to really fight against him, please be ready to fight till achieving logical end and to face harassment from authorities. Please be ready to face bogus criminal cases which may be filed by Jayesh Shah. I am also facing such bogus complaints. However, I continued my fight without any fear because I am aware that I have not committed any thing wrong and I am fighting for a cause.

I want to draw your attention to following:
1. Ask the Media to stop publishing advertisements of his projects and thus discourage him for destroying Mangroves. Ask Media to first stop playing double standards. Last Saturday, DNA, Hindustan Times, Mumbai Mirror etc. gave full page advertisement of same builder in respect of his upcoming Mira Road projects. Some of these projects are coming at land reclaimed by removing mangroves. As per High Court in Writ filed by BEAG, State has to provide buffer zone of 50 mtr from Mangroves. Whereas the project “Gaurav Woods” at Mira Road is adjacent to Mangrove area. Does this order not apply to Mira Road? Mr. Jayesh Shah has committed offences under Environment Protection Act by removing mangroves in name of bund repairing. Court will take years to decide the offence till then all mangroves would have been removed. So it is Media through which this fight can reach to its logical end. Therefore, convince Media to discourage this builder. Send e-mails and letters to editors of these news papers and ask them to perform their obligation towards Environment & Mumbai. Ultimately Mangroves are saving Mumbai. Please ask your friends to send emails to as much as people to send forward message to editors of these News Papers and support actively to fight of BEAG to save Mangroves. I am sure within one month, Mr. Jayesh Shah will have to stop playing with fate of Mumbai. I have already started this campaign!

2. Keep the politicians away from your fight if you really want to fight for a cause. Because, actually it is their job to fight against such people but they have forgot their real job that is why we have to come out to take up such issues. I am sure that some day they will betry the fight. They are like Trozen Horse! They have joined only to get information and cash it with builder.
