A plot of land to the west of the almost complete New Link Road, which used to be farmland belonging to some local families, got filled in with debris in 2006. Our Forum was formed in 2009.
This is how the plot used to look in October 2006 just before the dumping started.

It comes under No Development Zone and is bordered by the New Link Road on the east and mangroves and farmland on the other sides.
A lot of dumping took place in October 2006 which was documented by residents of buildings opposite the plot.

After that for almost 4 years the plot lay as it was. In the last few days our members observed activity on the same plot. A police van was found parked there, as well as some other trucks and containers started unloading stuff.

We asked the residents living close by to complain to BMC at 1916 and Police at 100. We also wrote to the BMC as a Forum and called up their staff. In the meantime the plot looked like this.

We visited the site and the person in charge told us that Tata Motors dealer Om Sai Motors was planning to set up a dealership there! When we asked him how it was possible he was evasive and could not show any papers either.
We also took photos and sent by email to the Environmental Secretary, Collector and Hindustan Times, whose reporter promptly called up and published the story yesterday, ie 28th October 2010 in page 8.
Barely had the ink dried on the news article than the BMC and Police took decisive action and arrived at the scene.
We will be uploading some images of what happened yesterday afternoon.
First they demolished the illegal water tank like structure.

Then the BMC’s JCB started excavating the cement floor.
