Unauthorized Dumping Near Viceroy Park CHS, Kandarpada, Dahisar West

An unauthorized dumping ground has developed adjacent to Viceroy Park society in Kandarpada, Dahisar West in July 2025.

Despite repeated informal complaints, garbage continues to accumulate, leading to severe health hazards, environmental pollution, and safety risks for our community. The situation is deteriorating, with increased mosquito breeding, foul odors, and a decline in our neighborhood’s quality of life.

We requested the BMC to take immediate action to:

  1. Remove the dumped waste without delay.
  2. Secure the area with fencing and warning signs.
  3. Ensure regular monitoring or install CCTV to deter future dumping.
  4. Penalize those responsible for illegal dumping.

Swift action is essential to restore hygiene and safety for all residents. We hope the BMC will treat this matter with the urgency it deserves.

Thank you for your prompt attention.

Effective Actions to Prevent Unauthorized Waste Disposal

1. Physical Barriers and Site Maintenance

  • Install fencing, gates, or large barriers (such as rocks or planters) to block access to vacant lots or dumping-prone areas123.
  • Maintain and regularly clean up sites to discourage further dumping; well-maintained spaces are less attractive for illegal disposal1.

2. Surveillance and Lighting

  • Install visible surveillance cameras (CCTV or solar-powered) at known dumping sites. The presence of cameras is a strong deterrent and helps identify offenders234.
  • Increase lighting in secluded or dark areas to reduce the cover of darkness that dumpers rely on52.

3. Signage and Public Awareness

  • Erect clear “No Dumping” signs with warnings of penalties and surveillance. Signs with watchful eyes or explicit legal consequences have proven effective53.
  • Educate the community about proper disposal options and the consequences of illegal dumping through regular communication, mailings, and public campaigns16.

4. Enforcement and Penalties

  • Enforce strict penalties for violators, including fines and legal action. Publicize enforcement actions to deter future offenses374.
  • Streamline reporting systems so residents can easily report illegal dumping, enabling quick response and investigation8.

5. Community Engagement

  • Involve residents and local organizations in monitoring, reporting, and maintaining cleanliness. Community stewardship helps sustain long-term vigilance and pride in the area1.
  • Organize community clean-up events and provide accessible legal disposal alternatives, such as scheduled bulk waste collection days69.

6. Improve Legal Disposal Accessibility

  • Increase the availability and convenience of legal waste disposal options, including recycling centers, hazardous waste collection events, and clear guidance on disposal procedures169.
