Coastal Road at Dahisar
Dahisar is the North West border of Mumbai. Beyond Dahisar lies Mira Road and Bhayandar. Mumbai’s Dahisar-Bhayandar Link Road will cut travel time from 60 minutes presently down to 5 minutes!

The 5-km elevated corridor will connect Dahisar West to Bhayander West, traversing Vasai creek. Of the total stretch, 1.5 km falls under the BMC’s jurisdiction, while 3.5 km lies with the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation.

The Dahisar Bhayandar Link Road forms the final leg of the BMC’s ambitious Coastal Road Project, which concludes in Bhayandar. The second phase of the coastal road is divided into six packages, with the DBLR commencing from the final F package of the plan, which links Gorai with Dahisar. At Dahisar, the elevated corridor will start near the Kandarpada Metro station along the Link road at Dahisar West and land near the Subhashchandra Bose Garden in Bhayandar West.

This project forms a part of the larger coastal road project from Marine Drive to Virar and once ready, one could be able to drive from Marine Drive to Dahisar in just 40 minutes!

Also, the Government of Maharashtra has approved another Sea Link from Uttan to Virar which will be linked to this project to provide a seamless drive from Marine Drive to Virar!

This is a huge project.

Engineering major Larson & Toubro secured the contract in July 2024, quoting ₹3,304 crore for the project from Dahisar to Bhayandar.

Mangrove cutting for the coastal road has started at Kandarpada, as seen in the picture below.

Two labourers were killed on Saturday 2nd May 2026 when a crane collapsed at the project site near Bhayandar West railway station. According to the police, the contractor was in the process of setting up a casting yard for the link road project when the accident occurred around 12.30pm. The platform of a gantry crane at the site suddenly gave way, causing the heavy structure to collapse onto workers below.

This raises serious concerns on the quality and technical expertise of the contractor.

Huge areas of wetlands and mangroves have been taken up for this project. The picture above shows Mira Bhayandar west.

As citizens, while we do appreciate the fact that road connectivity is improving, we would also like to be mindful of the environmental impact. Wetlands and mangroves are essential for the survival, not only of coastal cities, but entire marine ecosystem.

I would love to hear your views on this issue.
